January 15, 2025 – In response to a 2022 petition filed by the Center for Science in the Public Interest and 23 allied organizations, the FDA banned the use of Red Dye No. 3 starting January 15, 2027. The FDA made the decision based on animal studies showing a link to cancer, and the popular food dye will no longer be permitted for use in candy, other processed foods, supplements, or medicines. California became the first state to ban Red Dye No. 3 last October. (Link to this post)
